So, what do we mean by unreached???

If someone hasn't come to Christ yet, that means that person is unreached right?

Well, not exactly. Did you know that missiologists (folks who study missions) consider a person unreached if he or she is part of an unreached people group (UPG) which means that less than 2% of that people group are evangelical believers? A people group is a cluster of people with a common language, tradition,  and culture. For example, Nigeria is one nation but is comprised of 544 separate people groups! Watch the short video below to learn more.

The 10/40 Window

Did you know that according to the Joshua Project, the 10/40 window used to include only counties that have at least 50% of their landmass between 10 and 40 degrees north latitude. Now, countries that are close to the 10/40 window and have high concentrations of unreached people are included.

SOME 10/40 FACTS

  • Population: 4.89 BILLION people (3 BILLION+ are unreached)
  • 95% of the world’s unreached people live here
  • The largest religions of unreached people groups are Islam and Hinduism

At least plenty of missionaries are going to these people, right?

Sadly, no.

The total amount of missionaries in the world is around 400,000. Around 3.3% of missionaries work with the unreached. That's 3.3% of all missionaries (roughly 13,200)  trying to reach 3 BILLION people. Plus only 0.001% of all Christian income goes towards reaching the unreached.

Why is all this so important?

Because the Need is Tremendous

SOME FACTS

  • There are 2+ billion Christians in the world today.
  • Out of that number, roughly 550 million are evangelical believers.
  • As of 2009, only 3.3% out of 400,000 total international missionaries in the world work with unreached people groups. Even if we make that number 5% today, that’s still only 20,000 international Christian missionaries (or 0.0005% of all Christians) for 3 BILLION people. The other part of the world has 380,000 missionaries for the remaining 4.5+ billion people.

The Imbalance of the Proclamation of the Gospel

It’s sad to be lost and even more sad to be lost and no one is looking for you.

The imbalance in the proclamation of the Gospel is one of the greatest tragedies in history. One part of the world lives in a veritable Gospel feast of availability with access to multiple churches, Christian radio shows, Christian TV shows, plentiful amounts of Bibles, Christian bookstores, Christian music, Christian associations of all sorts, Christian schools, etc. The other side lives in a veritable Gospel famine with many people who will most likely die as it is with not one person ever sharing the Gospel with them.

Jesus is worth more than this. Jesus is worthy of the FULL reward of His sacrifice.
